Hello Poca Go! Racers!
We are gearing up for a super fun day this Saturday.
Thank you for supporting this event and supporting the trail system at Pocahontas State Park. As it likes to do in Virginia, the weather is teasing us with possible heavy rain showers prior to the event. We are monitoring developments very closely and do not anticipate any issues at this time. Any changes in the game plan will be decided on by tomorrow, Thursday June 10. Please stay tuned to the Poca Go! Facebook page and website. You will receive another email with any updates.
On to some important race day information:
Park Entry: All racers and volunteers will gain free entry to the park for the race. Just tell the attendant at the front gate that you are racing/volunteering.
Once parked, everyone will check in at Base Camp: walk toward the Amphitheater entrance. Race day packet pickup and check-in will be located behind the Nature Center, (follow the signs – we refer to this area as ‘Base Camp’). There are restrooms to use here. The only restrooms near the race course are porta potties (located off Loop Forest Trail), so take advantage now. There will also be a bike support tent (Carytown Bicycle Co).
We recommend that you leave base camp at least 30 minutes prior to your race start time. From the registration / Base Camp area, ride your bike through the parking lot, down the hill toward the boat ramp, over the pedestrian bridge and up the fireroads to Start of Stage 1. There will be course marshals and signs to direct you.
Start times for your category are listed below.
The Race Hub will be at the top where most of the trailheads are located (Swift Creek trailhead). Near the large green tent you will find a bike maintenance tent (sponsored by Molly’s), a hydration station (sponsored by RVA Racing), and our first aid/emergency medics. There will be an on-course bike support tent (Pedal Power / Swood) at the end of Nunnally Forest Rd where Lost Spring / Corkscrew end and Millstone begins.
Volunteers will be stationed along the course. If you need help or have questions, please ask a volunteer in a yellow or pink shirt. Each stage starting gate (chute) will be lined with blue Shimano race tape and flags to be used as a guide for where to stand as you are waiting to start each stage. Once at a stage, racers can start 30 seconds – 1 minute after the person in front of them depending on racer speeds. Starts will be rolling: you will start at the beginning of the chute but the timing sensor won’t pick up your chip until you exit the chute.
After the race: After completing your final stage, proceed back to Base Camp (see turn-by-turn course directions and course map). and return your timing chip (mandatory). This is very important in order to tabulate your results. Friends of Pocahontas State Park will be selling packaged snacks, bottled drinks, and beer. BREW will have a food truck on site. Awards will be held in this area.
Awards Ceremony: Each category will have their own awards ceremony shortly after participants of that category finish. While awaiting for your ceremony to start, beverages and snacks will be available for purchase. This will take place at the amphitheater.

Packet pick up:
Early Packet Pickup will be on FRIDAY, June 11th from 4:30 PM – 7:30 PM. at Molly’s Bicycle Shop and Blind Dog Brewery located at 4515 W Hundred Rd, Chester, VA 23831. Please try and pick up your packet during this time as it will help race morning run as smoothly as possible. Pick up is also available on race morning at your category designated time (see below) behind the nature center near the amphitheater. All racers will also be checking in on race morning get their timing chip. You will return your chip to this same place after the race. Your times will not be recorded if you don’t return your chip, so please remember this important step.
If you have not been fully vaccinated for COVID-19, please wear a protective mask when within 6 ft of others. This is most important when picking up your registration packet, attending the post race festivities, inside all park facilities and where social distancing is not possible. Thanks for your cooperation.
